Last night I slept at a hotel in St Lucia for the first time in my life. Yup, I lived my entire life in one of the top vacation destinations in the world and although the lady doth brunch, I’ve never stayed overnight. But the circumstances of this not-vacation? CRAZY.
My toe is still broken which means over the weekend I was stuck in bed all day long. As I lay in bed on Sunday, a water droplet crashed down on me. I thought I imagined it and kept writing a blog post. I looked up and saw that more water was coming down and a good portion of our Queen-sized bed was soaked with water. I waited for my fiancé to wake up so I could tell him we suffered a leak.
My fiancé called our property manager and a plumber and they came over, examined the leak and decided it wasn’t an emergency. In our defense, the property manager did a lovely job, but the plumber decided we didn’t need immediate work and we would have to wait until Tuesday for him to fix the leak from our ceiling. I was really concerned but we shoved some buckets and towels under the leak and kept going with our evening.
Many hours passed. My fiancé and I had a lovely drive. Since I can’t move around easily he drove me far downtown and helped me get some time to be out of the house since my injury. Once we arrived home, we were both exhausted. I went to bed at 9 p.m. with both my ceiling fan and regular fan on. Many lights were on outside the room too.
I woke up unexpectedly because I notice that my fans are off and I’m hot. That’s not it… There’s a strange sensation on my leg too. Water is leaking like a FAUCET out of my electric ceiling fan all over me. All the power in the house went out.
We had to get out… fast!
We called the property manager and she suggested that we stay at a hotel for the night. Most hotels we called couldn’t accept us, but Windjammer Landing Resort offered us a vila with an ocean view.
Now, I have the chance to experience one of my favorite places to brunch as a guest. At first, I struggled to process what happened and felt massively inconvenienced because on Monday, I had to get work done. Monday morning, we made a big decision to stay an extra day at the resort so we could focus on getting our work done and keeping me off my feet which are still in a lot of pain.
The plumber checked out our apartment on Monday and fixed the problem. Our power is back on and our cats are fed. That’s great but our bedroom smells like sewage, so this extra day out is necessary. Our plumber and property manager claim no sewage leaked down but my fiancé saw brown water in the buckets. Today we have some help cleaning up, but this crazy occurrence has really thrown a strange turn in my week.
I am learning to accept these sudden changes as a part of life. So much beauty has come from this horrible surprise and I am grateful that I had the chance to experience this beautiful resort setting and gorgeous villa.
Let me know down in the comments if you have any questions about the resort. 👇🏼 Staying here has a lot of perks and Windjammer Landings has solidified its place as my favorite resort in the country due to its friendliness towards black and local guests. I have no issues with how we have been treated and I would love to stay here again if I got the chance.
